Natalie Hui

I am a Chinese Canadian children's illustrator from Toronto that actually got my start half-way around the world in Hong Kong.

I have experience illustrating picture books and educational materials as well as collaboration experience with a range of clients from independent publishers, schools, non-profits, government sectors and commercial corporations.

My books and products can be found at major bookstores across Hong Kong!

This year is quite a busy one for me! I'm in the midst of wrapping up some picture books scheduled for completion in the summer. I'm working closely with the clients through the entire process and enjoying the close-knit collaboration style as well as having the space to take lead on art direction for the entire book including crafting a cohesive colour palette and text layout.

Working in partnership with a leadership academy, I am continuing a picture book series for kids 3-8 that nurtures character building through positive attitudes and stories encouraging good habits in a daily context.

At the end of 2022, I published "Tong Lau Book & Toy" a 3d play house encouraging hands-on play and interactive storytelling themed upon the close-knit community behind a typical tenement building in 1960s-80s Hong Kong. It has a focus on historical and cultural education and is available at major bookstores across Hong Kong.

My art book "Hong Kong Travelogue" was shortlisted for a picture book award.

I'm currently working towards a new art book "Japan Travelogue" as well as compiling a zine from a Comics Account where I document adventures with my husband.

I also have experience creating large scale illustrations for public events and crafting family oriented visual stories for social advocacy, cultural campaigns and branding.  Most recently, I created a feature wall for a kid's corner of a lifestyle and home goods shop.

I'm a strong advocate for upholding the highest professional practice and contributing to a fair illustration industry.

I have a Youtube Channel which introduces viewers to my creative process.

I am currently seeking representation and look forward to picture book opportunities with publishers especially for the North American market.
