I am a Canadian children's illustrator from Toronto with best selling books and products found at over 30 major bookstores across Hong Kong.

My travel and cultural exploration art books - "Hong Kong Travelogue" and "Japan Travelogue" consistently rank in Hong Kong's leading bookstore chain, Eslite's Top 10 Children's Books and has been shortlisted for a picture book award. 

​

Aside from writing and illustrating my own books, I collaborate with publishers and authors from all over the world on picture books and educational projects. 

​

I love to work with pencil to paper in traditional mediums with a mix of digital painting to tie it all together. I enjoy designing intricate streetscapes and am drawn to introspective stories with empathy.

Following the success of my "Travelogue" books, this year I published "Hong Kong Culturepedia" a non-fiction book which introduces readers ages 8-12 to iconic traditional festivals and lesser known cultural customs through interesting facts and historic stories.

​

​I launched my art book "Japan Travelogue" to critical acclaim immediately ranking in Hong Kong's largest bookstore chain, Eslite's Top 10 Children's Book upon its publication in late 2023 amongst my previous book, "Hong Kong Travelogue" that was shortlisted for a picture book award. These titles continue to remain in the Top 10 ranking in 2026.

 

I am also developing a story concept for "Lost Treasures" a picture book about a frog searching for a lost item and inadvertently noticing other found objects - exploring how acts of kindness and community can be found in the small objects we often overlook.

Published in 2024, I had the pleasure of illustrating 2 picture books with independent publishers in Hong Kong and Singapore. Gailan's Special Job is a story about a girl and her big family of pets introducing young readers to ideas of inclusivity through a story that shows everyone is valuable no matter what they look like or what they like. Luca's Dim Sum Adventure follows a boy and his grandparents bonding over dim sum set in Hong Kong. A tale of family, tradition and the joy of discovery of new experiences.

At the end of 2022, I published "Tong Lau Book & Toy" a 3d play house encouraging hands-on play and interactive storytelling themed upon the close-knit community behind a typical tenement building in 1960s-80s Hong Kong. It has a focus on historical and cultural education and is available at major bookstores across Hong Kong.

​ 

I also have experience creating large scale illustrations for public events and crafting family oriented visual stories for social advocacy, cultural campaigns and branding.  for a variety of clients including NGOs, schools, government sectors and corporate companies.

I'm a strong advocate for upholding the highest professional practice and contributing to a fair illustration industry. I am committed to creating by hand and originality. I do not use any form of AI generated artwork or manipulation in my practice. 

 

I have a Youtube Channel which introduces viewers to my creative process and I'm growing a collection of comics - "Japan Lifelong", centred around my life in Japan with a particular interest in the cultural and attitude differences with the West found in small daily encounters.
