Natalie Hui

I am a Canadian children's illustrator based in Toronto that actually got my start half-way around the world in Hong Kong.

I have experience illustrating picture books and educational materials.

I'm passionate about mindfulness and situational awareness in the way kids see the world and the people around them.

I have a deep connection to my childhood and strive to think with empathy towards the next generation.

I'm am excited to be creating and writing my own stories this year and seeking further opportunities in North American and UK publishing. I'm always looking to be challenged to expand upon my ideas and value iterative thinking.

I was recently awarded the KidLit Women Scholarship by Highlights Foundation - a leading educator in the children's publishing industry and a selected mentee under the Association of Illustration's Mentorship Scheme.

This spring was the launch of a fully illustrated kid's card game for the US market. The 50 cards introduces kids to unique holidays such as Aviation Day and Hugging Day along with activities and games on the back of each card.

Working in partnership with a leadership academy, I completed a 5 volume picture book series for kids 3-8 that nurtures character building through positive attitudes and stories encouraging good habits in a daily context.

At the end of 2019, the travel themed picture book Emi Takes Hong Kong had a successful launch event and is available at major bookstores across Hong Kong. It was ranked on the 2021's top 10 children's bestseller list at major chain Eslite bookstores across Hong Kong and charted at #1 amazon rankings for new release children’s explore Asia fiction upon launch.

I launched self-published art books with positive reception. "Hong Kong Travelogue" is a curated collection of 2 years worth of artwork and written observations celebrating the cultural and historical significance of nostalgic streetscapes. Due to positive feedback and continued interest, the second edition has been published in 2021 and sold at Hong Kong's annual Major Book Fair for a second year. The followup title, “Japan Travelogue” is in progress.

I also have experience creating large scale illustrations for public events and crafting family oriented visual stories for social advocacy, cultural campaigns and branding.

My blog provides a more personal look into my practice as well as reflections on a career as an illustrator. I'm a strong advocate for upholding the highest professional practice and contributing to a fair illustration industry. I also have a Youtube Channel which introduces viewers to my creative process.
