Natalie Hui

I am a Canadian illustrator based in Toronto that actually got my start half-way around the world in Hong Kong.

  • Experience in Children’s Publishing projects in North America, Asia and around the world.

  • Picture books and educational materials for commercial, institutional, NGO and government sectors.

My art is ...

  • Message Driven / Vibrantly Observant / Celebrates Exploration of the Everyday

My mission is ...

  • To tell uplifting and inquisitive tales. To uncover forgotten stories and spark curiosity.

  • To uphold the highest professional practice and contribute to a fair illustration industry.

This is what makes me awesome!

  • I have experience with publishing projects from start to finish - walking hand in hand with clients through concept development, art direction, prototyping, graphic design, marketing to guidance on production.

  • I’m excited to share my ideas, value feedback and synergy in collaboration.

I'm happy to welcome 2021, with the launch of a fully illustrated kid's card game for the US market. The 50 cards introduces kids to unique holidays such as Aviation Day and Hugging Day along with activities and games on the back of each card.

Working in partnership with a leadership academy, I’m creating a picture book series for kids 3-8 that nurtures character building through positive attitudes and stories encouraging good habits in a daily context.

I’m wrapping up a project with a centre for special needs youth to create an illustrated journal for teens with autism as a tool used in conjunction with therapy sessions for self-discovery. At the end of 2019, the travel themed picture book Emi Takes Hong Kong had a successful launch event and is available at major bookstores across Hong Kong even charting at #1 amazon rankings for new release children’s explore Asia fiction.

I also have experience creating large scale illustrations for public events/venues and crafting visual stories for social advocacy, cultural campaigns and corporate branding

I launched self-published books with positive reception. "Hong Kong Travelogue" is a curated collection of 2 years worth of artwork and written observations celebrating the cultural and historical significance of nostalgic streetscapes. The newest addition, “Japan Travelogue” is in progress.

I'm looking forward to creating and writing my own stories this year and seek further opportunities in North American and UK publishing.

My blog provides a more personal look into my practice as well as sharing industry information.
